Rahul said that he is resigning not because he has done something wrong. Although he resigned from the Youth Congress state president’s post, he will continue as an MLA.
'Nobody has asked me to resign. Spoke to senior leaders. The high command has also not asked me tender my resignation. My name has not been mentioned as a complaint. If a complaint is received, will face legally. The actress who levelled the allegations is my close friend. I don’t think the allegations are against me. It is the media who mentioned my name. I believe in the legal system of the country. This is the time where audio messages can be fabricated. Let them prove Honey Bhaskaran’s allegations. Is there evidence for abortion? If found guilty, ready to face action. When party workers take a stand against the government, having to justify such issues creates a crisis for them. I’m resigning to avoid that. Not because I have committed a crime,' said Rahul at the press meet.
Meantime, reports say the high command sought the resignation of Rahul. The leadership decided to demand his resignation after it became clear that the revelations made through social media had brought disrepute to the party in the public. Opposition leader V D Satheesan and KPCC president Sunny Joseph had a telephone conversation over the resignation. It is reported that Rahul was asked to resign only after talking to senior leaders. There was also an assessment within the party that protecting Rahul would cause significant losses to the party in the upcoming local body and assembly elections.
